Operations Manager
As an Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and control of all laboratory and/or site services operations within your area. You will ensure that services are delivered efficiently, safely, and within agreed timescales, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all laboratory and site services operations, ensuring testing activities are planned and executed in line with client requirements and project deadlines.
Develop and manage testing schedules, adjusting priorities and resources as necessary to maintain operational efficiency.
Ensure operations are delivered in a cost-effective manner, optimising resources while maintaining service quality.
Determine resource requirements, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to support operational demands.
Prepare project timescales, cost estimates, and operational plans for contracts and service delivery.
Establish, monitor, and maintain quality standards, implementing effective quality control programmes to ensure consistency and compliance.
Monitor testing and operational processes, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions where required.
Oversee the selection, utilisation, maintenance, calibration, and replacement of equipment to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance.
Collaborate closely with Quality, Health & Safety, Procurement, Technical, and Operational teams to achieve business objectives.
Support Managers and Directors in implementing company policies, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement programmes.
Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
Lead, motivate, and develop operational teams, fostering a positive and high-performing working environment.
Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching and support to maximise team effectiveness.
Identify training and competency requirements for team members and yourself, ensuring appropriate training, competency assessments, and auditing activities are completed and documented.
Ensure all documentation, records, and evidence required to support accreditation and compliance activities are maintained accurately.
Take responsibility for the effective implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with the requirements of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 and applicable accreditation standards.
Key Skills and Experience
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Proven experience in laboratory, testing, technical, or operational management environments.
Sound understanding of Quality Management Systems and BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
Excellent planning, scheduling, and resource management capabilities.
Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting and cost control.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
Commitment to health, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced operational environment.
